Setting up the Mobile App

The PetLinx Mobile App enables you to manage your customers, pets, and bookings all from your Android or iOS device.  Your data is synced between PetLinx Desktop/Cloud and the app, so any updates made in either PetLinx Desktop/Cloud or the app will be updated in the other system.  

 

To install the app, open the app store on your device and search for “PetLinx”. 

 

Setting up


To begin using the app, you first need to configure employee access and enable PetLinx Sync.  In PetLinx Desktop/Cloud,  open the PetLinx Sync form in the PetLinx Menu.


The PetLinx Sync form will identify a number of conditions that need to be met first:


  • You have a current PetLinx Desktop (version 6 or later) or PetLinx Cloud subscription. If using PetLinx 6 Desktop your support subscription must be current, click Purchase to go to the PetLinx Online Store to renew if it has expired.  Note: bookings cannot be added or viewed in the app if PetLinx 6 is used.
  • The minimum supported version of PetLinx is installed. Click Update to install the latest PetLinx update if needed (not applicable for the Cloud edition).
  • AutoBackup is turned on (not applicable for the Cloud edition). This setting can be turned on in System Options – Backup.
  • The grooming and daycare future recurring booking period must be set to 6 months for grooming, 4 months for daycare, or less. These settings can be changed in System Options – Grooming and System Options – Daycare respectively.


Once these conditions have been met, click the Mobile App button then change the switch to On. Your employees login to the app with their email and password as entered into PetLinx, so choose which employees can use the app by ticking “Is App User”. Enter an email and password for these employees if not already entered (please note if you’re using the Desktop Network or Cloud edition, the password is also used to login to PetLinx).


Syncing

 

You’ll now be able to sync your PetLinx database – click the Sync button to do this. The first time you sync may take up to 5 minutes to complete depending on the size of your database. Once the sync has completed, you can login to the app at which point the data will be synced to your device.

The sync will continue automatically in the background on both PetLinx and the app whenever they are running, you can adjust the time between syncs to as little as 5 minutes. Any changes made in PetLinx will be synced to the app, and vice-versa.


If for any reason you want to remove your data from syncing with the app, click Clear Online Database in the PetLinx Sync form. This will delete all your synced data, but your PetLinx database will not be affected. Please note the data will stay in the app until you choose the Clear Data option under the app’s “Settings” menu. Click Sync again after clearing your online database to re-sync your database to the app.


The status of the sync is always displayed in the bottom right corner of PetLinx, either “OK” or “OFF” if there is a problem. If the status is showing as OFF then open the PetLinx Sync form to review the reason. Hovering your mouse over the sync status displays the last time that the sync was run.
